Federal Agencies Address Dangers to Indigenous Women

Native population experiences significantly higher murder and trafficking rates.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) and Justice (DOJ) released their response to recommendations submitted by the Not Invisible Act Commission, reemphasizing their dedication to addressing murder and human trafficking within Indigenous communities. Thousands of Native Americans, particularly women, have been reported missing in recent years. The Bureau of Indian Affairs states that actual numbers are much higher since violent crimes within Tribes are underreported.

“Addressing violent crimes against Indigenous peoples has long been underfunded and ignored, as a cause of intergenerational trauma that has affected our communities,” said Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland. “Through historic efforts like the Not Invisible Act Commission, we’re identifying recommendations created by Indian Country, for Indian Country. This will ensure that epidemics like the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples Crisis and Human Trafficking are addressed with the resources they demand.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Haaland to be led by the Lord as she heads the Interior Department.
  • For Assistant Secretary Newland to be discerning as he oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
  • For the Native American leaders and Indigenous people to address violence against women.
